THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION

 

It is a special document written in 1787 in Philadelphia. Its nickname is "the highest law in the land". No laws can be written and passed if they are against the Constitution. "we the people" opens the Constitution because its aim is to protect people's rights. There are 7 articles and 27 amendments

 

AMENDMENTS (A SMALL CHANGE TO A DOCUMENT)

The Constitution can be changed.

changes are called amendments. The 1st 10 amendments went into effect in 1791. Those amendments are called the bill of rights.

The first 10 amendments guarantee and protect freedom

1st amendment(freedom of speech/religion/the press7assembly)
 

THE ITALIAN CONSTITUTION

 

It is the supreme law of the country. It  was drafted on 2nd June 1946 which was the year of the referendum (monarchy or republic) and when women vote for the first time. It came  into force on 1st January 1948. It was written to have democratic laws, to protect the rights of the people and it was based on liberty and equality.

 

THE UNITED NATIONS

 

In 1945 after two World Wars 193 countries decided to create an organisation for peace, they wanted everyone to have food, medicines, a home in a safe place, dignity. In New York there is the UN building where members vote for the secretary general that is the leader who must always work for peace. In 2015 an agenda for the sustainable transformation of our world by 2030 was written. It has 5 P's: people, prosperity, planet, peace and partners.

PEOPLE

 

There must be no hunger, no poverty, clean water, clean energy, medicine, a safe place to live, equal education

 

PLANET

 

We must protect nature, eco-systems, life in oceans, food must be sustainable

 

PROSPERITY

 

Women and men must have a good job. There must be less inequality

 

PEACE & PARTNERS

 

There must be peace and justice. Countries must work together.
